Reframed is a collection that begins with the language of traditional, ornate frames—those often found in fine art museums—and gently disrupts their expected forms.
Each mirror starts from a familiar silhouette, then bends, extends, or divides in ways that reveal new functions, hidden interiors, or unexpected relationships. Through subtle intervention and careful transformation, the collection invites a reconsideration of what a frame can hold, expose, or become.
Louiiiis emerges from the outline of a classic Louis XIV frame. As its sketch extended, the horizontal line naturally continued past its boundary, and that single gesture allowed the form to evolve. The flowing contour stretches outward, tipping into a playful exaggeration that becomes a shelf. Louiiiis lightly subverts the strict rules of frame-making; with one understated, mischievous adjustment, the frame gains a new function while preserving its original purpose.
Car-Los focuses on deconstruction as a form of intimacy. A traditional gold-leaf frame is carefully divided, creating two independent mirrors that remain visually and conceptually linked. The exposed cut reveals the hidden interior—the thickness and quiet spaces that typically never meet the eye. Though separated, the two parts hold the memory of a shared origin; if reunited, their edges would nest perfectly together, returning to the whole from which they were born.
