COALESCENCE

SAINSBURY CENTRE FOR VISUAL ARTS

Photography ©Mark Cocksedge

Coalescence is made from over 2500 pieces of anthracite excavated from the UK’s last remaining coal mine.

The work visualises the exact volume of anthracite, a high-carbon and lustrous coal, that would be consumed by a single light bulb left burning for a year.
