FREEZE TABLE

Freezing temperatures are exploited to create a seamless bond between metals that would otherwise not adhere in nature.

The breakthrough in the series – a table of copper and aluminium – was made by burying four copper legs in snow, leaving them to contract by 100th of a millimetre.

The legs were excavated and inserted into apertures in an aluminium slab where they were allowed to unfreeze and expand at ambient temperature, firmly locking them in place with strong, invisible joins.

Further works in the series are produced through precise calibration of temperatures and tolerances of various shapes, forms and metals.

The series comprising Freeze Ring Table, Freeze Bench, Freeze Circles Table, Freeze Desk, Freeze Round Table, Freeze Chair and Freeze Table was exhibited at the Friedman Benda Gallery in New York in 2015.
