Paul Cocksedge Studio has designed a light installation to mark the opening of fashion brand COS's new Coal Drops Yard retail space, in London's Kings Cross.
Orbits explores the contrast between natural and manmade materials, featuring six pieces of rock suspended by flexible hoops of light. Gravity gives each of the pendants their final form, with the weight of the rock pulling the ring of light into place.
“It's about the juxtaposition between technology and nature – the precision of LED light and the rawness of rock,” says Paul Cocksedge. “Although this piece is still, there's a feeling of innate movement created by the push and pull of these two opposing forces.”
As part of the collaboration, Paul Cocksedge joins Disegno founder and V&A curator Johanna Agerman Ross in the retail space on 16 November for a Q&A about his process, inspiration, and the installation itself. The store will be opening in the coming weeks.
