KISS

Based on the idea of staging intimate encounters in the public sphere, Kiss reinvents the ancient European tradition of kissing under a mistletoe and transforms it into an act of charity.

Kiss comprised a huge mistletoe and LED canopy hanging above a stage in the centre dome of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.

When couples kiss on the stage, their connection sets off a light sequence in the canopy that changes the colour in varying intensity, ultimately forming numbers in the sum of kisses given under the mistletoe.

Each time this occurred, in the spirit of the Christmas season, the sponsor UBI Banca, donated one Euro to CESVI, an NGO helping ease hunger in North Uganda.

‘‘People and the way they connect are integral to this piece. When couples move to the stage and kiss, their act of kissing activates a light sequence in the canopy above and illuminates it. With high-tech installations there can sometimes be a disconnect, but with Kiss it’s connectivity and people’s touch that brings the technology to life.’’ – Paul Cocksedge.
